Knesset Hagedola
   Literally, "the great assembly"; the supreme legislative body of the Jewish people at the beginning of the Second Temple period in ancient Israel following the return from the Babylonian exile (from c. 538 BCE). The name of the modern parliament of Israel—the Knesset—is derived from it.
